APS Board of Directors
The Board of Directors governs the Society and has overall responsibility for pursuing its Mission, determining the Strategic Plan and priorities, monitoring implementation and developing a resource base to enable its achievement. The Board is the ultimate decision-making and policy-setting body. It is also responsible for the financial viability of the Society and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements applicable to a company.
The President and all other non-executive Directors are elected by Members of the Society to act in what the Board considers are the best interests of the Society, being the interests of the membership as a whole. President: Associate Professor Tim Hannan FAPS
Tim is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology in the School of Psychology at Charles Sturt University, having previously worked in public health and private practice. He holds postgraduate qualifications in clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, cognitive science, and sport psychology. Tim directed the WISC-IV - WIAT-II - CELF-4 Australian Co-standardisation Project from 2003 to 2006. A member of the Society since 1992, Tim has served on numerous Branch and College committees, including terms as NSW Chair of the College of Clinical Psychologists, National Chair of the APS College of Clinical Neuropsychologists, National Chair of the College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists, and National Chair of the College of Sport Psychologists. Tim was elected as a Fellow of the APS in 2008, and to the Board of Directors in 2010.
Executive Director: Professor Lyn Littlefield OAM FAPS
Lyn was appointed as Executive Director in 2001 and is a member of the APS Colleges of Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists and Community Psychologists. Lyn was previously the Head of the School of Psychological Science at La Trobe University where she continues to hold a professorial appointment. She was the inaugural director of the Victorian Parenting Centre, and in 2001 received a medal of the Order of Australia for service to the welfare of children and families and the advancement of training in the field of child, adolescent and family psychology. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management.
Mr Michael Burge OAM FAPS
Michael is currently Director of the Australian College of Trauma Treatment and has over 30 years experience in counselling, education and training. He has worked clinically in the area of posttraumatic stress disorder for approximately 22 years and has published both nationally and internationally in this field. Michael was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in the 2010 Australia Day Honours for service to psychology and to the community through the development of training and treatment protocols for trauma. Michael has been a member of the APS since 1990 and a member of the APS College of Counselling Psychologists since 1991. He has served on numerous APS Committees and also as the Chair of the Victorian Branch (1998-2002).
Ms Sue Carter
Sue is a Chartered Accountant, and has a consulting practice specialising in corporate governance and board effectiveness which includes working as a facilitator with the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She is a former Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) Regional Commissioner for Victoria. Sue has held non-executive director positions on a number of boards in the public and private sectors and is currently a non-executive Director of Treasury Corporation of Victoria, ANZ Staff Superannuation (Australia) Pty Ltd, and Horticulture Australia Limited. She is also Chairman of the Compliance Committee of Black Rock Investment Management (Australia) Ltd.
Associate Professor Erica Frydenberg FAPS
Erica is an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne, a researcher and educator. Erica’s research interests relate to the social and emotional development and adjustment of children, adolescents and adults, and she has published widely in these areas. Erica has been the recipient and chief investigator on numerous ARC and philanthropic grants. Erica has been a member of the APS for over 40 years and a previous member of the Board of Directors (2006– 2009). She is a past Chair of the Victorian Branch and a member of the National Executive of the APS College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists. Erica currently chairs the APS Membership, Recruitment, Retention and Engagement Advisory Group.
Professor Mike Kyrios FAPS
Mike is Professor of Psychology at Swinburne University, where he is Director of the Brain and Psychological Sciences Research Centre and chairs the Executive Committee of the National e-Therapy Centre. He has worked in numerous contexts from academic to private practice and consultancy. Mike chaired the Scientific Committee of the International Congress of Applied Psychology in 2010, a role he will undertake again for the 2016 World Congress of Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies. Mike has been a member of the APS since 1984 and instigated (and was inaugural Convenor) of the APS Psychology and Cultures Interest Group. He has also served as National Chair of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists (2004 – 2006). Mike currently chairs the APS Professional Practice Advisory Group.
Ms Anne Lipzker MAPS
Anne is currently the Coordinator of Child and Adolescent Mental Health for the Northern NSW Local Health District. Anne holds postgraduate qualifications in clinical psychology and has a long work history of both clinical practice and strategic development in the public health sector, as well as broad experience in the provision and organisation of professional development and support. A member of the APS for over 30 years, Anne was a founding member of the NSW North Coast Branch in 1994, and continued to contribute as Committee member and Professional Development Coordinator. Anne has served on the APS Board of Directors (2006–2010) as well as on several APS Advisory and Working Groups, most recently the Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group.
Mr Alan Plumb FAPS
Alan is currently Psychologist in Charge of the Bunbury Behaviour Centre in Western Australia. He has worked primarily in the South West and Kimberley Regions of Western Australia as a psychologist in education since 1976 both as a practitioner and manager of school psychology services. He has served on a range of Department of Education committees including the Reference Groups for School Psychology, Behaviour Management, Emergency and Critical Incident Management, Pastoral Care and Health and Wellbeing. Alan has been a member of the APS and a member of the APS College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists since 1984. He has also served as Chair of APS Branches in WA (2005–2007) and as the WA State Chair (2007–2009). Alan currently chairs the APS Rural, Regional and Remote Advisory Group.
Emeritus Professor Trang Thomas AM FAPS
Trang is Emeritus Professor of Psychology at RMIT University and has been an active member of the APS for more than 35 years. She is currently a member of the APS College of Counselling Psychologists and a former General Director on the APS Board (2001–2005). Trang has previously been a Council member of the NH&MRC and Assistant Human Rights Commissioner. She has served on several Boards including Alzheimer’s Australia (Vic) and as full–time Chair of the Victorian Multicultural Commission. Trang has received many awards including Alumni Achievement Award (UNSW); Inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award (La Trobe); and Order of Australia Honours (AM). Trang was recently appointed as a member of the National Board of the Psychology Board of Australia.
Mrs Jill Wright MAPS
Jill is a registered psychologist and clinical family therapist who has worked in private practice for 22 years. She has a postgraduate degree in applied psychology from Swinburne University of Technology and a degree in politics and philosophy from Melbourne University. She is the founder, principal psychologist and executive director of Psychology Melbourne, a psychology organisation with more than 30 psychologists in the Melbourne CBD, Albert Park and other suburbs. Earlier in her career, Jill worked as a journalist with The Age newspaper and was a television news journalist for Channel 10 News and current affairs. Jill has contributed actively to a number of APS Committees, including the APS Melbourne Branch Committee.
