Guided by strategic policy set by the APS Board of Directors, the National Office undertakes the work of the Society to advance the discipline and profession of psychology and promote the important contribution of psychological knowledge to community wellbeing. Staff in the National Office are employed to achieve these aims across various management, policy, project and administrative roles.
A large number of the staff are psychologists, which brings psychological expertise to advocacy efforts and the development of a range of resources and project materials, and ensures the Society has an accurate understanding of the aspirations, needs and concerns of its membership base.
The work of the National Office is managed by the Society's Executive Director Professor Lyn Littlefield, with oversight of day-to-day operations provided by the Society's General Manager, Mr Barry Whitmore.
The activities of the National Office are undertaken by units corresponding to the following key areas of business of the Society. In addition, some areas of strategic policy and projects are located within the executive director's department.
The APS office is located in Collins Street, Melbourne.
