Services for Australian Rural and Remote Allied Health (SARRAH) are pleased to announce the following scholarships round for 2013-14. Funded by the Department of Health and Ageing, these scholarships support Allied Health Professionals that provide a clinical service within Australia. Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait allied health professionals are encouraged. These scholarships provide practical support at the health service delivery level.

The Allied Health Scholarship is available to psychology students enrolled in an accredited/approved postgraduate psychology program in health, counselling or neuropsychology.

The Postgraduate Scholarship enhances the skills and knowledge of allied health professionals who provide a clinical service within Australia. Study at the graduate certificate, graduate diploma and masters level is eligible.

The Clinical Psychology Scholarship assists eligible applicants gain a qualification recognised by the Psychology Board of Australian as a clinical psychologist. This scholarship is limited to those who have secured candidature in an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) course at the Masters or Professional Doctorate level in the area of clinical psychology.

The Clinical Placements Scholarship support allied health and oral health students to undertake a clinical placement in a rural or remote Australian community within an ASGC-RA rating between 2-5 during their degree.

The Continuing Professional Development Scholarship support practicing allied health professions to attend continuing professional development activities such as short courses and conferences to enhance their professional practice. The scholarship is offered twice per calendar year.

NSW Rural Allied Health Clinical Placement Grants are offered each semester. Grants are awarded on the basis of the duration of the placement and the cost of travel associated with accessing the placement. Placement grants of up to $750 (or $1,000 for placements at Broken Hill) were offered in 2012.

NSW Rural Allied Health Postgraduate Scholarships are available to permanent fulltime or part time allied health clinicians employed and currently working in a rural located public health service, to assist with educational expenses directly associated with post-graduate study. In 2012 the scholarships were valued at up to $10,000 dependent on the course undertaken.

As part of the newly announced Tasmanian health package, SARRAH will award additional allied health scholarships for 2013 and 2014. These additional scholarships are for practicing Tasmanian allied health professionals to undertake postgraduate and continuing professional development courses and also for allied health students to undertake clinical placements within Tasmania.
The application process for these additional scholarships will remain the same as for current scholarships.
