eHealth Record information brochures
The Department of Health and Ageing has released a number of brochures for consumers and health professionals.

The brochures explain eHealth records in greater detail, outline what the key benefits an eHealth record system will bring, and describe what consumers and health professionals need to do to be involved in the eHealth record system.
A consumer (PDF 1289KB) and health care professional (PDF 1063KB) brochure are now available to download.

PCEHR Concept of Operations
In September 2011, the Concept of Operations: Relating to the introduction of a personally controlled electronic health record system (Con Ops) was released. In January 2012, the PCEHR Concept of Operations Addendum was released.

The main issues raised during the public consultation leading up to its release are discussed in the Feedback Analysis Report.

Draft PCEHR legislation
The Exposure Draft PCEHR Bill 2011 was released for consultation and submissions closed on 28 October 2011. The intention is to promote discussion within the community about the legislative framework required to support the implementation and operation of the system as described in the PCEHR Concept of Operations.

Lead implementation sites

To complement policy initiatives driven by NEHTA, a number of 'lead implementation sites' have been appointed throughout Australia. They will stress test specific aspects of the capability of the eHealth record system framework, such as health record repositories, discharge summary capabilities or medications management capabilities. These actions will ensure the eHealth record system can deliver the required outcomes at a national level.

The aims of these eHealth sites include to:

  • Target a broad number of key groups such as mothers and newborns, aged care, people with chronic conditions, palliative care and Indigenous populations in different demographic areas and healthcare settings
  • Cover all States and Territories and rural and regional communities include various healthcare sectors - public and private, primary care, aged care and private specialists
  • Include a broad set of functions that the eHealth record will need to provide.

APS representation and submissions

Representation

  • David Stokes, APS Executive Manager, Professional Practice is a Clinical Leader with the National E-Health Transition Authority.

    Clinical Leaders are a select group of clinicians who are assigned to various areas of NETHAs work program to provide an important sounding board for the development of eHealth in real world contexts and a conduit to clinical stakeholders.

    David has represented allied health on the Continuity of Care Reference Group.
  • Bo Li, APS Senior Policy Officer, represents Allied Health Profession Australia (AHPA) on NEHTA forums, representing the interests of both psychologists and allied health.

    Bo has represented allied health on the Primary and Ambulatory Care Advisory Group, Stakeholder Forum and the eHealth Round Table.

Submissions

The APS have responded to various calls for submissions on draft legislation and proposals as part of the consultation process in developing framework for the eHealth system.
